Many brochures claim 4K resolution, but the pixel pitch is not proportional to your audience's viewing distance. Here is how to break those numbers down objectively.
1. Understand the real definition
Pixel pitch is the distance from the center of one LED cluster to the center of the next, measured in millimeters. In theory, a smaller number means higher pixel density. But many buyers get stuck on the raw number without considering Viewing Distance. It is the viewing distance that should decide the pixel pitch, not the other way around.
- P1.2 vs P1.5: The difference is minimal at a 5 meter viewing distance, but the price gap can reach 30%.
- Scan Rate: Do not focus on pitch alone. A low refresh rate makes the screen flicker on camera.
| Pixel Pitch | Optimal Min. Distance | Max. Comfortable Distance | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| P0.9 (COB) | 0.9 Meters | 3 Meters | Control Room |
| P1.2 (SMD) | 1.2 Meters | 5 Meters | Corporate Boardroom |
| P1.8 (SMD) | 1.8 Meters | 8 Meters | Retail Display |
2. The "budget" vendor strategy
Watch out for panels with a small pitch that use low-grade LED chips with a high dead pixel rate after 6 months of use. Ask for certified MTTF (Mean Time To Failure) data. That is why at WAW, chip type and numbers like these are written as line-item specs signed by both parties, not verbal promises.
